When I Loved You

               We kicked through leaves
                along the timberline
                sometimes
                your hand in mine

                you teased
                and chased
                I let you catch up
                pull us together

                swinging an off-kilter circle
                laughing
                playing
                we fell to the ground

                laying halfway on top
                one leg between mine
you smoothed hair from my eyes
                said, stay with me

                I held your face
                enthralled
                answered,
                forever

                tender lips brushed mine
                all the world spiraled away
the earth stayed it's motion ...

                mowed hay dressed the air
                and I loved you
